Hi! I'm Tim IRL, and my fursona is an african lion named "Kijani," which is Swahili for "Warrior". I chose this name because it represents the ability to battle through any adversity or challenges that life throws at you, like the fearless Maasai warriors. My character is a fun-loving, friendly lion that is always exploring and curious about the world around him.
I'm a huge Lion King and Lion King on Broadway fan with over 900 items in my collection, and I've been fortunate enough to see the musical a total of 16 times in seven different cities worldwide. I wasn't a fan since the beginning like most in the TLK fandom, I re-watched the film in 2003 to write an essay for a college English paper and it really affected me deeply, much more so than any film had before, and pretty soon my whole life had to be surrounded by TLK.
Other than TLK, I love bowling and it's one of the few things I'm proficient at doing (218 average last season + my first 300 game/800 series). I enjoy playing and watching many other sports as well, tennis, baseball and golf.
I am also an avid Dance Dance Revolution/In the Groove player, I've been playing off-and-on for the past 6 years or so, mostly for the exercise. I'm getting back into it now but my stamina just isn't what it used to be...
I also love game shows, especially Press Your Luck (No Whammies!) and word games of all types. I accomplished one of my lifelong dreams in 2004 when I appeared as a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, which you can watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7wRFm_ahBA.
Finally, I'm hopelessly addicted to Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational on the PS3 and compete regularly against the top players from around the world.
Finally, as a lion fur I have a great interest in the fandom, and particularly fursuiting. I commissioned the fine folks at Furducers to make my first suit (semi-realistic lion) which I got in August 2008. I also commissioned Snap E. Tiger of www.bycats4cats.com to do my new character Kato Lion (the genetically mutated twin brother of Marf Lion, Snap's most recent lion suit) and he came in the fall of 2009.
Kijani 2.0 was made by Beastcub Creations and debuted at Rainfurrest in Sept. 2013.
What it means to be "furry" is very personal to everyone, but for me it is about having fun and brightening the lives of those around you, whether children, adults, or others within the community. I feel a deep spiritual connection to lions and I always seek to be surrounded by them. You'll usually find me wearing shirts emblazoned with lions and one glance at my car will render obvious what animal/movie I'm quite attached to ;)
I'd love to meet more local furs that live in the Greater Seattle area for some fun times and fellowship. I invite you to read my first LJ post to learn more about how I got into the fandom.
